John Lennon said that life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans... It is such a good observation. I'd planned to teach a hoop class last night, but life happened - in the form of a double booking at the venue... When I turned up expecting to roll into action, a nervous young man greeted me in the car park. "Hula hooping's cancelled tonight." he said, fidgeting nervously, his anxiety palpable. Glancing over his shoulder I saw that the hall was crammed with tables, each surrounded by people happily chatting as they munched on fish and chips and played Tombola. No hope of squeezing even one solitary hooper in among that lot! I suspect the young man was bracing himself for some shouting. He may well have already had to deal with irate customers since the class before mine had also been cancelled. Instead, my response was to accept that the situation had changed. I parked and made my way to the seating area near the cafeteria. My intention was to call class participants so they could avoid a wasted journey. "Why make a fuss? Would it change anything?" I asked the (still agitated) chap, who visibly relaxed when he realised I wasn't annoyed with him. Once upon a time, I might have responded that way, but these days I do my best to focus on what is - it helps me stay calm. I don't always succeed, but I do my best. If you can't control it, there is no point getting upset about it. Especially when it is just "one of those things"... So that was what happened on Thursday! My sincere apologies to those who turned up expecting to hoop and instead found a space crowded with tables, people and food. Mistakes happen. This one was the result of an administrative error entirely beyond my control. Hope you had a good evening... albeit a hoopless one. The next Borehamwood hoop class is on the 3rd November. Or at least, that is the plan...

So much for calling a halt to classes - not only have the Bushey and Borehamwood classes been extended to the end of November, it is looking like I may have a daytime class in Ware... Feeling grateful!

OK. I've been teaching hoop classes on the 'other side' of Hertfordshire (from where I live) for well over a year. During that time I've had just three travel issues - all this year and all motorway related. All this year and the past three months or so. Really frustrating as the classes are drawing to a close. Yesterday was the most recent - M25 shut and all local roads completely gridlocked as a result of a collision earlier in the day. Every route I tried was congested and with drivers becoming impatient there was a growing sense of desperation on the roads. I didn't make it to Borehamwood until well after 7.30 - far too late for the class. Heartfelt apologies to those who turned up and waited. I hope my calls from gridlockland weren't too disappointing and that my message got through... I will be there next week. Promise!
